If You’ve Been There, You Know

If you’ve been there, you know. The picturesque beauty of Italy screams out to have it’s picture taken.

But there is something absolutely beautiful about being in the countryside, sitting, immersing in the exquisite surroundings, not just walking past and capturing the photo.

I have been to more than 35 countries, and some of my fondest memories of traveling are the times that I wasn’t there just to check things off my list of things to do: the Eiffel tower, the Great Barrier Reef, the Kremlin.

The deeper satisfaction came during the times I spent with people and places, absorbing the real-life beauty. These moments last in memory as long as a photo, and have a deeper, warmer feeling than a snapshot of a tourist destination.

In Russia, our friends took us to the countryside where we had time to become still, to think, to soak it all in… and to just be. This was especially delicious for me because in these sweet, slow moments, I was inspired to paint.

And it was the same in Italy.

Hanging out with our cousins who have an olive orchard with a view high above the Mediterranean Sea.

That’s why I planned it as the location for our final dinner during our La Dolce Vita trip to Italy.

This summer’s small group tour will be different from our last two trips (to Ireland and to Scotland) because we’ll be staying at one hotel during the whole trip, and have daily side-trips to enjoy the amazing beauty all around this area. Because in Italy, la dolce vita includes plenty of rest, relaxation, and drinking in all that life has to offer.
